Clearwater Permanent Alimony Attorney
Let Our Skilled Lawyers Address Your Spousal Support Concerns
For those whose marriages have lasted several decades, they have much more to lose in terms of finances than other couples facing divorce. For example, a couple who has retired together and then decided to get a divorce will end up splitting their retirement funds through the property division portion of the proceedings. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for permanent alimony under Florida law. Talk to one of our skilled Clearwater divorce attorneys about your case in a consultation.

Awarding Permanent Alimony
Maintenance is dependent on several factors, one of which is the length of the marriage. If you and your spouse were married more than 17 years, and one of you earns more, the spouse with the lower income will likely receive permanent alimony. If your marriage was of medium length (anywhere from 7 to 17 years), you are less likely to receive permanent alimony but may be awarded the support if you present clear and convincing evidence the alimony is appropriate.
The support is intended to assist a spouse with their needs and necessities as they were established during the marriage if he or she can’t do that on their own after the divorce is over. For example, if a spouse spent the majority of the marriage raising children rather than working a paid, full-time job, he or she might have been out of the workforce too long to have any relevant job experience.
